Durdin moves to Swift Sport Rallycross Championship for 2016
Reigning MSA Junior Rallycross Champion Bradley Durdin will graduate to the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship within the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with Odyssey Battery this season.
Durdin will remain with the Peter Gwynne Motorsport team for his maiden season of Swift Sport action, having raced a Swift in the MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix last October, the day after securing the Junior RX crown. “I’m so excited to compete in the Swift Sport category. I’ll be back with the PGM squad, which helped guide me to four out of eight final wins and the championship last year,” said Durdin. “There’s a great professionalism within the team and they’ve always be able to give me what I’ve needed to do the job. I know this year is going to be yet another tough year for us and a huge learning curve again. Honestly, after last season I think we’ve set our expectations quite high for this year and I feel that if we could finish in the top three at the end of the year, that’d be a great year for us. But then again, we all know I’m not one for wanting to finish second best.”
The young driver is excited by the growth of the British Rallycross Championship this year, with a revised event format and new television package with BT Sport. “It’s great to see the growth of British rallycross as a whole in the past year with a lot of new teams, drivers and sponsors joining in on the action. The future for the series is looking bright,” he said.
The Peter Gwynne team will also run 2015 Swift Sport champion Tristan Ovenden in Super1600 this season, alongside Durdin. “After the entertaining year Brad gave us in Junior RX last year, I'm anticipating this season will be every bit as interesting,” said Gwynne. “Brad has a mature attitude and willingness to learn, taking situations in his stride and he showed real professionalism last year. Looking at his times from last season, at Mondello Park his time in the Junior final was comparative to second in the B final in the Swift Sport class, and with him putting in a faster time than current champion Tristan in the Grand Prix when he drove the Swift for the first time, I don't think he will have any problems settling in.”
