O'Donovan to contest British RX opener in Focus Supercar
Former British Rallycross Champion Ollie O’Donovan will race a Ford Focus Supercar at the opening round of his 2016 MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with Odyssey Battery campaign at Croft Circuit next week, before switching to his European Championship specification Ford Fiesta later in the season.
The 2007 champion won two British RX events in 2015 – at Mondello Park and Lydden Hill – driving his Tony Bardy Motorsport prepared Ford Fiesta. The London-based Irishman used his Focus to win a pair of events in the British series in 2014, on his return to the sport after time away from the headline category. “I’m excited to get back into the Supercar at Croft. It feels like a long time since we were there last October for the final round of the British Championship and Rallycross Grand Prix. We (Team RX Racing) had a really strong year last season and we need to build on that performance going forward. We have the pace and I really want to win the British Championship again, that’s my goal,” said O’Donovan, who will also compete in the five-round FIA European Rallycross Championship again this season.
Later this year, at a yet to be announced event, motor cycle road racing star Guy Martin will join O’Donovan in Team RX Racing for a round of the British Rallycross Championship. “We announced Guy’s involvement with us at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham last month, and I was really taken aback with how popular he is, just by having his name on the side of the car at the show,” he continued. “We will do a test with Guy later in the year, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he gets on at an event.”
