Pat Doran commits to British RX 2016 with Citroen C4
Multiple British champion Pat Doran will contest the full MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with Odyssey Battery this season in an LD Motorsports run X Games winning Citroen C4.
World Rallycross Championship driver Liam, Pat’s son, beat double World Rally Champion Marcus Gronholm with the car at LA X Games 2011 to claim the Rally Car Racing gold medal. While the team has run Citroen DS3s in the British, European and World Championships of late, the C4 has remained unused since 2012.
Doran will run alongside the team’s recently announced new signing, Super National champion Dan Rooke. “I’m going to do the full championship and I just can’t wait. I think it’s going to be a really good year. It’s really exciting with all these youngsters doing Supercar. Obviously we’re supporting one of them in Dan, and we’re trying to give Jack [Thorne] some help as well. It’s just fantastic for rallycross, the sport is growing and the enthusiasm is huge,” said Doran.
“The C4 has been sitting in bits in the corner of the workshop for a few years now, so we thought we’d put it together. More to the point, I’ve now got a car that I can use, rather than people trying to borrow it to do European and World events, which I’ve had for the last few years. The C4 is a great looking car! We are going to run it in similar colours to how Liam used it in the European Championship in 2010. It may not be the latest technology, but it’s strong and steady. It’s not as quick as the DS3 but I’m not the youngest on the grid either, so it will do me just fine.”
