Set Promotion enter British RX Super1600 at Lydden Hill
Multiple FIA European Rallycross Super1600 champions Set Promotion will compete at the second round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery next week as they prepare for the start of the European Championship season.
The Finnish team will run Renault Twingos in the Super1600 category for Russian Timur Shigaboutdinov and Latvian Artis Baumanis. A third car may also be run for a yet-to-be-announced driver.
Set Promotion team manager, Kalle Pinomaki, says the British RX event is a great place to get the teams drivers up to speed ahead of the opening round of Euro RX in Portugal next month, and the British round of the series, which also takes place at Lydden Hill in May. “For sure this event is very useful to help our drivers prepare for Euro RX at Lydden later this year, and also for Portugal. The drivers are really excited about this opportunity to race before the European Championship begins. It’s important for them to get into race mode after a long winter and to be able to find their limits without needing to think about the result itself. That really helps with their confidence,” said Pinomaki.
The team have continued the development of the Twingo through the off-season, having won the Super1600 crown with Janis Baumanis in 2016, who will now race for World RX Team Austria in the World Rallycross Championship this season. “We’ve made many small improvements. At this stage it’s not possible to find any huge improvements as the level is already pretty high, but we are really happy with the progress we've managed to achieve,” continued Pinomaki. The team will test for one day prior to the Lydden Hill event.
Another Euro RX Super1600 championship contender, Ulrik Linnemann, will also race at the British RX round, driving his Peugeot 208 alongside new team mate, Daniel Nielsen. Reining British Super1600 champion Craig Lomax will head the lineup of home Super1600 drivers.
