Mullen ends 2014 on a high in the Swifts
Following on from the previous round at Croft, team Mullen Motorsport found themselves at Blyton Park for the final round of the Suzuki Swift Championship, and not just for the season either. With Chris’s plans to progress into the Super National Championship in 2015 this final round saw Chris show off his Power Maxed Swifty talents one last time.
With Blyton being a reasonably local track for the team, a day off work on Saturday meant the team could have a steady run down just before rush hour and get ready to set up for the Sunday racing. Taking little time to set up for the next day, the team met up with other drivers such as Darren Scott and Jack Brown.
Race day arrived, and with a 6:30am start drivers were up, out and ready to take on the day with what they had left to offer for this the final round of the year. Greeted by his sponsor, Adam Weaver, MD of Power Maxed, himself looking forward to the day’s action, he and Chris discussed all things Rallycross, while they waited for other competitors to awaken, and that Chris wanted to go out there, do his best and end the season on a high with as little, if not any damage to the car.
With spectators being offered free entry due to the day being in memory of Anita Wadge, the atmosphere was most definitely supportive. BTRDA and everyone who was involved with arranging the day to be in memory of Anita made the end of season a special one for all the competitors.
The first heat saw a superb battle initially between Chris and Tristan, but Chris pulled away to win the opening heat of the day, quite comfortably, boding well for the day ahead.
The second heat saw the Mullen Motorsport Swift once again perform perfectly and a second win was added to the results for the day.
Heat three was another repeat result with Chris taking a third win, and putting himself on pole for the final, a results he was pleased with and said “The track here is very tight, and pole is important where there are so few passing places. The car has been great so we are all looking forward to the final now.”
Chris didn’t disappoint, with Graham having issues on the track and Tristan high on his tail there was only one thing on his mind, to go out and win one last time in his green machine. Being 2012 Suzuki Swift Champion he nailed it. A 1st place victory to end his season spectacularly meant he had qualified second place in the Championship.
With the team ecstatic with the result Chris could finally relax, he had gone out and done what he needed to do. ‘It’s always nice to end the season in such a fantastic, positive way. My intentions were to do well and I exceeded that. The team have been great this year, my dad, my girlfriend, my sponsors and my friends who have all supported me through the year, I really couldn’t ask for much more. 2015 really is looking exciting for us and I hope I can take everyone from this year with us.’
