Mullen Motorsport bags a podium at Croft
Embracing the previous round at Lydden Hill, Mullen Motorsport was looking forward to Round 6 of the British Rallycross Championship at their home circuit, Croft.
With a quick testing session on Friday morning and only an hour to travel to the circuit, the team set off hopeful of clear skies at the other end as showers were forecasted.
Arriving at the circuit the team set up camp, opened up a few bottles of beer and caught up with other drivers competing that weekend.
News had travelled around the camp that Chris’s sponsor, Power Maxed’s very own MD, Adam Weaver, was to debut in one of Peter Gywnne’s Suzuki Swift. Power Maxed were also sponsoring the remaining two rounds of the Suzuki Swift Championship which offered exciting news to Chris to be able to compete and be out on track with his sponsor.
The team were up bright and early as race day had arrived. Not even a little rain could dampen their spirits. Pre made Power Maxed goodie bags and other freebies were set out ready for spectators throughout the day. The team then turned their time to prepping the car for practice.
With Chris and the team happy with the car’s performance in practice the FDP Group sponsored swift sat proudly back in camp awaiting the first heat.
The first heat was soon upon them and with Adam’s eyes watching the pressure was on and boy did Chris deliver. Around six or seven cars were on the grid, all eager to be the first Swift to bring home a win in the first heat. Chris was away with an excellent start meaning he had a race he could concentrate on being out front. Leaving the others behind Chris swooped in to claim victory of the first heat of the weekend.
Soon enough the second heat arrived but with Chris positioned at the back of the grid it was almost certain another win would more than likely not be on the cards. However battling it out right till the end Chris pulled in a respectable third place finish.
As fast as it could the third heat was ready to race and with Chris positioned in the middle of the grid, he needed to pull something out the bag. Sure enough, right to the end Chris finished second which put him in second position for the final.
With a break before Chris was due to go out for the final he caught up with Adam and watched a bit of racing himself, but once again before he could click his fingers he was sat on the start line for the final.
Sat with the likes of Tristan and Graham on the front line Chris knew he had to up his game. Being 2012 Champion and Graham 2013 Champion he knew it was going to be a tough final, however with Blyton to follow in November there was another chance to grab victory if this weekend didn’t go to plan.
With excellent racing and battles for victory Chris came home finishing in third place. Happy with the result he explains “this weekend has been all about going out there and doing what I can, I did what I could and I know I need to push further for the next round. Being 2012 Champion the last two years have been tough with other competitors in the Swift camp wanting some glory for themselves, as believe me it’s worth fighting for! It’s been great to catch up with everyone and see my sponsor Adam out on the track himself. I can now look forward to the final round of the Championship and look forward to just washing the swift rather than repair any damages as this round didn’t involve as much contact as the last round.”
