Wales’ premier motor sport venue Pembrey is next up on the schedule for the 2015 MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group on Sunday, 10 May – with the promise of lap-after-lap of high-octane, wheel-to-wheel action.
The MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group heads for Pembrey and Round Three next weekend and the entry list has been announced today.
Pembrey next weekend will mark the long-awaited race appearance of the Albatec team’s British EuroRX runner James Grint. The Hertford-based driver will pilot the two-litre, 16v Supercar raced by Mark Flaherty at Lydden Hill after Team Principal Andy and Mark were unable to reach an agreement to continue the BRX season. While Flaherty seeks an alternative seat in which to complete the year, Albatec will use the Welsh round as additional track time for the former RX150 race winner ahead of his FIA European Rallycross Championship debut.
Rallycross is on a high just now; of that there is no doubt. Whether it is the FIA World Rallycross or the domestic British Championship, the sport itself, and the public awareness of it, is increasing hugely.
Youth plays a major part in that aspect, both for the long-term success and its survival. Jake Taylor who along with the likes of Drew Bellerby, Jennie Hawkes, Bradley Durdin and more recently Charlie Bean are now showing that the sport transcends age.
The names have been announced today (Wednesday) of the 12 young British motor sport stars who have been selected as finalists for the exciting new RX Talent Search initiative.
Confirming the growing appeal of rallycross, no fewer than 122 MSA competition licence-holders aged between 18 and 30 put their names forward for consideration. The 12 finalists include some of the UK’s best young prospects from major circuit racing and rallying disciplines as well as junior rallycross. Several have already made their mark in winning events and titles, while others are strongly tipped for future success.
Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson has won this weekend’s Bompiso Rallycross of Portugal, round one of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy, after a dominant display in his Volkswagen Team Sweden Polo RX Supercar. Reigning World RX Champion Petter Solberg clinched the runners-up spot and Timmy Hansen finished third for Team Peugeot-Hansen.
Tristan Ovenden, the current leader of the Swift Rallycross Championship and reigning Swift British Rallycross champion will contest the Lydden Hill round of the FIA World Rallycross series in an RX Lites car.
FirstCorner – the company behind RX Lites – has helped IMG, the organisers of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, launch a UK-wide talent search. The initiative is also being held in conjunction with the UK’s official governing body, The Motor Sports Association (MSA), and aims to find future rallycross stars.
