5 Nations BRX and BTRDA Cross Car competitors to battle for coveted Motorsport UK crown
The Cross Car division within UK rallycross has received a huge boost with the addition of a coveted Motorsport UK title for the 2025 season, creating the Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship.
UK motor sport’s governing body, Motorsport UK, has aligned with the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy and the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship bringing both Championships together to give the FIA-sanctioned single-seater buggy category significant credibility as an accessible and affordable pathway within rallycross.
Introduced by the FIA as a more regulated version of the Cross Car class (previously known as Cross Kart), a range of manufacturers have delivered a number of iterations of the machines fitted with motorcycle engines, and the concept continues to increase in popularity on the continent at a rapid rate.
FIA-sanctioned Cross Car machines were first introduced into UK rallycross in 2022, racing as part of the UK’s Nitro Rallycross Championship round at Lydden Hill, and within the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship. It became part of the 5 Nations BRX roster last year.
Now, the category will join the headline Supercar class and Junior division within 5 Nations BRX as being awarded a coveted Motorsport UK title.
The Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship run within both the 5 Nations BRX and BTRDA schedule, starting the 12-round campaign at Blyton Park on March 30 as part of the BTRDA season opener, before joining all UK rallycross rounds with the exception of the second 5 Nations BRX visit to Mondello Park in October, the season culminating at Lydden Hill in November as part of the annual 5 Nations BRX Fireworks Rallycross weekend.
BTRDA have also offered the Turton Trophy which will be awarded the highest placed BTRDA member in the Motorsport UK Cross Car category and a trophy will be awarded to the BTRDA XC Class Champion.
Given the extent of the schedule, competitors will count three dropped scores towards their final total.
Hugh Chambers, Motorsport UK CEO:
“Cross Car is rapidly growing in the UK, becoming a cost effective and accessible discipline open to all. The disciplines inclusion in the 5 Nations British Rallycross in 2024 highlighted its rapid expansion and as its popularity grows in the UK and internationally, we’re excited to launch a dedicated British championship for the Formula.”
