Ahlin-Kottulinsky set for British RX debut at Maasmechelen
Audi R8 racer and former rallycross driver Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky will make her MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY batteries debut at the fifth round of the championship next week at Maasmechelen in Belgium, driving the ODYSSEY Celebrity buggy in the RX150 category.
Currently racing an Audi R8 LMS in the ADAC GT Masters in Germany, Ahlin-Kottulinsky raced in the DTM supporting Audi TT Cup in 2015 and the FIA World Rallycross Championship supporting RX Lites Cup in 2014, where she achieved a best finish of fifth at her home round of the series at Holjes.
“Rallycross is so, so much fun and there is so much action. It’s really different to circuit racing. In a circuit race you can think about where to overtake a car for four laps, but in rallycross it is only four laps long so you don’t have that time, you just have to take all the chances you have. There is so much adrenaline inside the car. I’ll never forget making the final at Holjes,” she said.
Ahlin-Kottulinsky has never previously competed in a buggy. She believes that rallycross is growing into a viable option for young drivers as a career option. “I’ve no experience at all of a buggy, but I’ve heard that they are similar to a Supercar on lap time so it will be fast! It’s a good challenge to do this, you learn from every bit of driving you get to do, in any car. Rallycross is growing really quickly. Before people were only looking in two directions, either to go racing or rallying but now since rallycross is growing and has manufacturers involved this is becoming a really good option too.”
So far in 2016, the ODYSSEY Batteries celebrity RX150 has been raced by ODYSSEY Sales Director Chris Pretty, World RX star Janis Baumanis and double British Rally Champion Dai Llewellin.
