Anson gets event-winning Mirage RX for full 5 Nations BRX campaign
Experienced rallycross Supercar racer Colin Anson has committed to a full campaign in the 2024 Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy with an event-winning Mitsubishi Mirage RX.
Having previously been renowned for his association with Saabs, Anson is most recently known for competing at the highest level in the UK with a self-developed Ford KA Supercar, and returned to 5 Nations BRX events in 2022 following an enforced hiatus due to clashing commitments.
Repurchasing the KA for his return, Anson also ran the Opel Astra used by Christopher Evans to claim the 2006 crown in recent years, but has now sold the two cars in order to modernise with an eye on moving up the order.
The Mirage RX was developed by Welsh outfit Spencer Sport for the 2017 season, originally raced by James Grint in British and European events, before now six-time champion Julian Godfrey used the car through the majority of the 2018 season, and to start his title-winning 2019 campaign.
Fitted with a JGE Evo engine and Unic four-wheel-drive transmission, Godfrey claimed three outright victories with the car, which hasn’t been used for competition since the opening round of the 2019 campaign.
Anson becomes the latest new full-time addition to join the headline 5 Nations BRX field for the 10-round 2024 season, adding to recent announcements from Irishman John McCluskey and Supercar debutant Nick Priddy.
Colin Anson:
“I have really enjoyed being back in the rallycross paddock in the last couple of years, but with the best will in the world, the cars I had were not going to really challenge. Technology has moved on, especially in recent years. I looked at a number of options for 2024, but when the Mirage became a possibility, it didn’t take long to do the deal. I have a good relationship with Julian Godfrey and that has certainly made a difference, we know the car is good and the engine and transmission package are well sorted, so I can’t wait to get started. I’m going to race in the full championship if I can and I plan to enjoy it all as much as possible.”
