Bellerby the one to Beat at Pembrey
The ever-thrilling Junior Swift Rallycross Championship makes a welcome return to the track this weekend with the annual visit to Pembrey in Wales. Drew Bellerby heads the standings after winning a dramatic final at Knockhill in May that saw championship rival Charlie Bean end any hopes of victory on his roof.
“I am feeling positive going to Pembrey and hungry for success after the roll at Knockhill which failed to dent my confidence”, said Bean when asked about Sunday’s upcoming race. “I have high expectations as Pembrey is my favourite circuit on the British Rallycross calendar and the track suits my driving style. I am going to have my work cut out though as the other juniors proved at Knockhill, they will want to win just as much as I do.”
Drew Bellerby however will be spurred on this weekend after forging a partnership with the world-renowned Fuchs Oils and Lubricants. The sponsorship deal has been signed for the remainder of the season. Series’ regulars Jake Taylor and Jennie Hawkes will join Bellerby and Bean on the grid.
Taylor took the initial victory in the final at Knockhill before the race was rerun and won by Bellerby. The Retford-based driver knows what he has to do to repeat that performance this Sunday. “Pembrey is where I had my first experience of Rallycross in 2013, so I am excited to be going back there. As always, the main aim is to learn as much as possible and keep improving ahead of a planned move into the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship next year.”
Also fresh off the back of a strong performance last time out is Jennie Hawkes. The 15 year old from Middlesbrough was ecstatic to take her first podium finish in Rallycross at Knockhill and is eager for more silverware at Pembrey.
All four Junior Swift drivers are covered by just nine points in the championship standings going into this weekend. Close and exciting racing is always guaranteed and you can keep track of all the action as it happens through Facebook by visiting www.facebook.com/swiftrallycross.
