Binks and Scott line up for Lydden Hill World RX
Fresh from its maiden European rallycross victory, Albatec Racing heads to Lydden Hill this weekend for the Motorsport News World RX of Great Britain. Round four of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy marks the team’s first World RX event of the season and pitches an all-British line-up of Andy Scott and David Binks aboard the Albatec Peugeot 208 RX Supercars head-to-head against the cream of world rallycross competitors.
Boosted by the team’s performance in British RX, which sees Andy top the tables with two wins and a second place, together with Jérôme Grosset-Janin’s first International victory in Mettet to lead Euro RX, the Dumfries outfit has high hopes of a strong showing at the spiritual home of rallycross on Sunday. Andy has a good record at the Kent track, taking victory there this season, while David too has extensive knowledge of the 1.2km track.
Competition in World RX is fierce this year, with a 30-strong entry of 600bhp flame-spitting Supercars bidding for victory. The entire team knows it will be a tough challenge as it takes on some of the world’s best drivers and cars, however the development work undertaken by Albatec and its technical partners over the winter has reaped rewards with a strong, consistent pace across both series, that has netted three overall Supercar victories.
Andy will return to the wheel of the Peugeot 208 that Euro RX driver James Grint debuted to such an impressive performance in Belgium last weekend, while David will take over the race-winning car, which powered Jérôme to victory. A quick turn-around saw the team re-prep the cars in Belgium, before heading to Kent.
Open practice kicks off track activity at 10.00 on Saturday, with the first of two qualifying heats at 12.30 and the second at 15.00. Sunday features an hour-long warm-up at 10.30, with heats three and four starting at 11.30. Two semi finals and the all-important final start at 15.00. Andy Scott, Team Principal, Albatec Racing driver #26:
“I’m really looking forward to going to Lydden Hill, but of course there’s a lot of preparation involved in getting the cars ready. We sustained quite some damage in Belgium, particularly to Jérôme’s car, although I believe David suggested leaving the car as it is, so he doesn’t have to worry about scratching it! No pressure for David though, he’s getting the winning car!
“Mettet’s result lifted the morale of the whole team, we’ve been on the road now for a few weeks and a win makes it all worthwhile. I’m sure that momentum will go with us through to Lydden Hill, no pressure on me either but I think I’ll have to do something pretty special.”
David Binks, Albatec Racing driver #81:
"I'm really excited to be back racing at Lydden Hill with Albatec Racing, on a track I know very well I'm hoping I can push hard for a good result. The improvements the team has made to the car over the winter look to be working so fingers crossed we can make some good battles happen to entertain all the British fans at the home of rallycross.
“I haven’t raced a Supercar for a while, but I’m confident of being able to recreate the team's great pace in the opening Euro RX round in Belgium.”
