Britain gears up for World Rallycross at Lydden Hill
Following the huge success of last year’s round of the new FIA FIA World Rallycross Championship staged at Lydden Hill in Kent, the organisers are delighted to announce that the Haymarket Consumer Media group is extending its title sponsorship of what’s already become one of the UK’s major motor sport festivals.
The eagerly anticipated event – to be staged at the famous venue over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (23-24 May) – is now officially titled the FIA Motorsport News World RX of Great Britain.
A must-read for all race, rally and rallycross fans, Motorsport News is the UK’s only weekly motor sport newspaper and, significantly, is celebrating its ‘diamond’ 60th anniversary in 2015. As part of an extensive programme of special features and events to mark this major milestone, Motorsport News replaces sister magazine Autosport as this year’s title sponsor.
“Motorsport News has a proud heritage stretching back over 60 years, and rallycross has been featured in its pages for six of those decades,” said Motorsport News editor Kevin Turner. “The sport captures everything that MN readers enjoy – fast-paced action, headline-grabbing drivers and high-tech machines. The growth of the sport and addition of the FIA World Championship title means that the British round of the contest at Lydden Hill has rapidly become one of the ‘must do’ events of the season.”
While Motorsport News becomes title sponsor, round four of the year’s thrilling FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy will receive additional promotion via other far-reaching publications within the Haymarket Consumer Media group including Autosport, Autosport.com, Autocar and Pistonheads.com – the UK’s largest website for owners and enthusiasts of sports and performance cars.
“The support we enjoyed from these titles last year were significant in us attracting a record crowd, so we are absolutely delighted to be extending the partnership,” confirmed Lydden Hill owner Pat Doran. “What’s more we are thrilled this time to be teaming with a title of Motorsport News’ reputation and popularity in what’s clearly a very special milestone year for the paper. Ever since Vic Elford won the very first rallycross race at Lydden Hill back the late sixties, the sport has always enjoyed great exposure in the well-thumbed pages of Motorsport News and that’s why we are so delighted to be part of its 60th birthday celebrations. I have no doubts that the forthcoming FIA Motorsport News World Rally RX of Great Britain will be one of the highlights on this year’s calendar as well as a fitting tribute to a title that’s now been a key part of this country’s motor sport fabric for 60 glorious years.”
