British Rallycross heads back to Pembrey this weekend for Round Six
This years MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group has well and truly entered the second half of the year, following the recent journey across the sea to Mondello Park for rounds four and five.
This weekend the rallycross paddock moves to South Wales and our second visit of the year to the fast Pembrey circuit. Julian Godfrey will be aiming to keep his title challenge on track now, following his unusually poor start to the season in his Ford Fiesta. That said, the Albatec Racing team boss Andy Scott is only ten points behind Godfrey and he will be aiming to push Godfrey all the way this weekend at Pembrey in his Peugeot 208. This years Supercar class in association with Odyssey Batteries has seen some competitive finals over the course of the five rounds so far, and Pembrey should be no different.
Joining Scott this weekend is none other that Kristian Sohlberg, the World Rally star more than capable of putting his Albatec Racing 208 into the points and a podium place. There is no doubt that the reach in World and European Rallycross that the Albatec Racing team have, has led to a massive benefit for British Rallycross over the last few months and a treat at most events for spectators with the drivers that they bring to the series.
Third in the series at the moment is former British Champion Ollie O’Donovan and he brings his Ford Fiesta to Pembrey for the first time. Last time out at Pembrey saw him push for a good result but he struggled with minor issues that deprived him of something better.
Andy Grant lies just three points behind O’Donovan in fourth, in the Ford Focus but has scored consistently all year, and expect to see more of the same this weekend at Pembrey. Steve Hill has had a turbulent year so far in the Mitsubishi, but there is no doubting the power and the speed the car has. If he can combine that this weekend with reliability then expect to see him challenge the others for a podium and some much needed points.
Kevin Procter heads to Pembrey just one point behind Grant, and his Ford Fiesta is now really on the pace and will provide stiff competition for the others in the Supercar class.
Mad Mark brings the vivid Citroën Xsara to Pembrey and on the day is more than capable of getting it to the front of the field, while Steve Mundy brings his Ford Focus to the South Wales venue as well.
In the MSA SuperNationals the battle for the title this year is being fought out between Daniel Rooke in the Citroën, and Alan Tapscott in the Vauxhall Corsa. Rooke has a fourteen-point lead over Tapscott, but both Gareth Wood in the Ford Ka and Paige Bellerby are only seven and nine points behind Tapscott respectively. This battle will be intense this weekend, but is liable to be joined by Mondello winner Tony Lynch in the Mini while current champion Stuart Emery will be aiming to close the points gap on those ahead of him, after his troubled start to the year. Mike Howlin in the Ford Fiesta will aim to uphold Welsh honour, at a circuit he normally goes well at, while Todd Crooks will have his Mini Cooper S on hand and there are entries too for Steve Cozens in the Renault and Gary Dixon in the VX220.
The Super1600’s will see battle between Mark Gamble who returns to Pembrey once again in the Suzuki, and Craig Lomax in the Citroën C2. Last time out, the pair treated spectators to some great heat battles through the day, and hopefully we are in for more of the same. Dave Ewin brings his Ford Fiesta S1600 to Pembrey and will be aiming to get into the battle between Gamble and Lomax.
The Swiftsport Championship contest resumes, with current leader Tristan Ovenden holding a nineteen-point lead over fellow Kent man, Darren Scott.Just two points behind Scott is Jack Brown, and he holds a twelve point gap over Rob Maynard. Other entries this weekend include Jake Taylor, Dave Ellis, Aidan Hills, Adam Weaver, Robert Pickard, Nathan Heathcote, Jeff Hankin and Alex Spencer.
In the MSA Swift Juniors Drew Bellerby holds a nine point lead over Bradley Durdin in second place, with Jennie Hawkes third. Bellerby and Durdin are joined on the grid this weekend by Sam Jones and Thomas Constantine. The Hot Hatch have entries this weekend from Robert Potyra and Paul Maybourne both in Citroën Saxo’s.
In the RX150’s the early season issues for Marc Scott have been a benefit for spectators, in that he has played catch up from the start.
The results is that both he and Chrissy Palmer are tied at the top of the table, equal on points. They provided some great heats and races at Mondello and you can expect more of the same this weekend. Both Palmer and Scott are on top of their game just now so the scene is set for another battle royal this weekend.
Stephen Jones will be aiming to get amongst the duo and push for points, as he currently sits in third place. Richard Moore makes a welcome return to the RX150 here at Pembrey

Once again Pembrey will echo to the sound of the Retro Rallycross cars once again and this weekend sees crowd favourite Rob Gibson bring out the glorious MG Metro 6R4, while Ray Morgan will have his Ford Escort BDA out as well.
Other entries include Lance Foster, Ian Shelley and Stewart Bowes all in Mini’s, while Paul Smith has his 1300 Polo on hand, and the sound of the Porsche will echo around with Barry Stewart bringing his 911 to South Wales. Daniel Greaves has entered in his Mazda 323.
