British RX Champions set to star on World RX stage
The British round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship takes place at Lydden Hill next week [May 27 – 29], where reigning British RX Champion Julian Godfrey and current championship leader Dan Rooke are set to star.
Five-time champion Godfrey will compete in the event in his multiple title-winning Ford Fiesta Supercar. In 2013, the last time a standalone European Championship event was held at the Kent circuit, Godfrey finished an impressive fourth in the final.
Current MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery leader Dan Rooke will compete in the single-make RX Lites Cup category of the event, driving a car run by the OlsbergsMSE team. The reigning British Supernational Rallycross Champion has driven a Lites car once before, at the MSA-backed RX Talent Search this time last year, where he made the final four. Alongside his own campaign in British RX this season, Rooke is also working as spotter for fellow British driver Liam Doran, who raced at the second round of British RX earlier this year in a Citroen C4 and will be in action at Lydden Hill in a JRM Racing Mini RX.
Former MSA Junior Rallycross Champion Kevin Hansen will be in action in the headline World RX category, driving a Peugeot 208 Supercar. The young Swede won the British title in 2013 and was victorious in the opening round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in Belgium last weekend.
In the Super1600 class, Craig Lomax, Phil Chicken and Michael Boak will all compete having raced at the opening round of the Euro RX category in Portugal last month.
