Doran wins 2016 MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix at Croft

23rd October 2016

Double X Games gold medallist Liam Doran (Dolton) won the Procters Coaches MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix at Croft Circuit, by leading the six-lap final from lights to flag (October 23).

Doran, who won the Grand Prix title in 2011, started on the front row and took the lead at the first corner, ahead of 2016 MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery champion, Dan Rooke (Holsworthy), driving a sister Citroen DS3. The top two ran without problems throughout the race to finish first and second. After winning the B final to make it into the main event, Ollie O’Donovan (Iver) climbed to third at the first corner.

Dave Bellerby (Northallerton) re-passed O’Donovan for third before the end of lap one and held the position for much of the race before retiring with a broken throttle. Former Grand Prix winners Pat Doran (Dolton) and Julian Godfrey (Heathfeild) ran fifth and sixth in the opening laps but as Doran dropped back with a half spin, Godfrey climbed to third to claim the final podium position. Local driver Kevin Procter (Northallerton) made a slow start but climbed up the field to finish fourth. Steve Hill’s (Thame) hopes of a podium finish were ended by mechanical problems that caused him to spin as James Grint (Kimpton) recovered from an off course excursion to finish sixth, behind Pat Doran.

Michael Boak (Jarrow) was the best two-wheel drive competitor in the event, driving his Super1600 Citroen C2 the local driver made the prestigious Grand Prix final and was classified ninth.

The final round of the Retro Rallycross Championship supported the Grand Prix, and it was the driver of the only four-drive car in the field, Mark Flaherty (Wokingham) who claimed victory. Stewart Bowes (Middlesbrough) stormed through the final and placed second in a bid to win the championship title, but third was enough for Ray Morgan (Hastings) to secure the crown.

Kirk Langley (Liverpool) won the RX150 Rallycross Championship final and Tom Middleton (Maldon) won the Junior Rallycross Championship final.
