Drift star Woodham joins Swift Sport line-up
Drifting ace Luke Woodham will make his rallycross debut in the sixth round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery at Lydden Hill next week.
The British Drift Championship driver and Monster Energy athlete will race a Peter Gwynne Motorsport run car in the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship, a single-make category that runs as part of the British RX package.
Although he has never raced at a rallycross event, Woodham has previously sampled rallycross machinery, he competed in an RX150 buggy as part of a Monster Energy celebrity knock-out at Ken Block’s Gymkhana Grid at Santa Pod in the UK last year. “I’m really excited to be able to join the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship from Lydden Hill until the end of the season,” he said. “It’s going to be my first time in rallycross and also getting to grips with a front-wheel drive car again. I hope that some of my Gymkhana skills will come into play, but as the new guy in the pack I’ll be happy to qualify for the semi-finals and even finish the race.”
Woodham is no stranger to Lydden Hill, having done Drifting demonstrations at FIA World Rallycross Championship events at the venue. “I’ve done drifting demos at Lydden Hill many times, but now to finally line up on the grid and experience the full track is mind-blowing.” Woodham will be joined on the Swift Sport grid by fellow newcomer Abi James in another PGM-run car.
