Four British titles decided at Lydden Hill event
Despite the inclement weather that greeted competitors and spectators alike at Lydden Hill, four British Rallycross titles for 2014 were decided during the course of the day’s action at the circuit and the penultimate round of this years Championship.
Julian Godfrey took the MSA Supercar title in association with Odyssey Battery, following strong performances throughout the year in his Ford Fiesta. The familiar Spec-R and Racetuners backed car, has been consistent at Lydden earlier in the year, as well as the other rounds so far at Knockhill and Valkenswaard and of course his recent win at Pembrey.
Speaking to British Rallycross today Julian said “Its nice to make it four British Rallycross Championship titles this year, and equal Dermot Carnegie. I have to aim for number five next year to get the better of him.” When asked did he ever think that when he first competed in the Peugeot all those years ago, that he would end up with four tltles he said “No, never thought that at all, and that’s what is so nice about taking the title yesterday at Lydden.”
Godfrey will head to Croft next month and contest the last round of the Championship and will be looking to add the British Rallycross Grand Prix title to this years one as well.
David Bell rounded off a good year, when he took the BMW Mini title yesterday at Lydden Hill, his points haul meaning that with the Croft round still to come he cannot be beaten. Speaking to British Rallycross today he said “ I am really pleased with the win, and yesterday was brilliant even though the conditions were very rough, and we broke the suspension in the final, we did enough.” He added “We will be at Croft for the last round, as it is my local track and only twenty minutes away, but taking the title yesterday made the long trip home worthwhile, and it’s a big thanks to my Dad and all of the team for the effort and support this year.”
Marc Scott made it two titles in a row, when winning at Lydden Hill yesterday gave him the 2014 RX150 Championship. The Albatec Racing driver has been impressive all year, winning almost as he pleased. However speaking to British Rallycross today, he was quick to praise his fellow competitors and said “It has been good this year, really enjoyable and I have had some great battles with the likes of James Grint, Jake and Brett Harris and of course Tejas Hirani who was really impressive at Pembrey. The guys at Albatec and my Dad, Andy have all worked hard this year, and we have had good support from RX Racing as well, so a second title is very good.” Scott went on to add, “We will be at Croft in October that is for sure, as apart from Knockhill, its my next closest local and we did very well there last year.”
For Craig Lomax and the Baxi Avanti Team Extreme Rallycross team, Lydden was the perfect finish to the year. Taking the title with one round still to go, was perfect for them, and it now allows them to head to Croft in October free to battle, as 2014 Hot Hatch Champions. For Lomax it was satisfaction that the planning and hard work had paid off and he told British Rallycross “To be honest I am pleased to win the title, but in fact more delighted for the likes of Shaun at Evolution Works, Dave at Milltek Sport and Adrian at Impulse Development as they have backed and supported me all year, and the result yesterday vindicates that support, so yeah I am pleased for them as well. It’s been a real team effort for all of us this year, and the likes of Hayley, Liam, Shaun and Chris have all been around to help. Yeah to wake up this morning as a British Champion was really good.” Lomax went on to add that the team will be at Croft in October for the final round of this years MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group
To all the title winners following Round Five yesterday British Rallycross adds it “Congratulations” to all of you.
