Grint to contest British RX Supercar with Albatec Racing
Albatec Racing will return to the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with Odyssey Battery for the second year in a row this season, fielding a Peugeot 208 Supercar for British driver, James Grint.
The 25-year old made his Supercar debut for the Scottish team at Pembrey Circuit last year and finished fourth. He competed in the five-round FIA European Rallycross Championship, where he made the semi-finals on three occasions. In 2016, Grint will focus on the British RX series.
“I’m really excited to be staying with Albatec in 2016. British RX looks like it will be a very fair and professional championship this season. Although I’m still a relative newcomer to rallycross compared to many of the Supercar drivers in Britain, I think with the Albatec car being as fast as it is, I should be a championship contender for sure,” said the former RX150 class competitor. “The British championship means a lot to both me and my sponsors. I haven't quite got the budget to do both right now, but I’ll be working hard to top up the calendar with some Euro RX races too.”
Albatec Racing team principle Andy Scott raced in the British RX series last season, and scored a pair of victories at Croft Circuit and Lydden Hill. He narrowly missed out on the title to champion, Julian Godfrey. “I’m delighted to welcome James back into the team for a second season. He proved last season that he could mix it with the front runners, gaining three semi-final places in Europe, as well as putting on a pretty impressive show in his very first event at Pembrey,” said Scott. “His previous rally experience meant he was very quickly up to speed on the gravel aspect of rallycross tracks, and he’s done some driving this year which he feels will help him on the tarmac sections too. Car and driver look a good prospect for a potential title-winning combination.”
The MSA British Rallycross Championship gets underway on March 6th at Croft Circuit, and will be broadcast on BT Sport in 2016.
