Harris set for 2017 British RX Supercar campaign
Former RX150 racer Jake Harris will move up to the MSA British Rallycross Championship Supercar category this year, racing his father Steve’s Citroen DS3 in a full-season campaign.
Harris was third in the RX150 Rallycross Championship points in 2016, tied on points with Stephen Jones and raced the DS3 for the first time at the MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix. “I’m really looking forward to this season,” said Harris. “I drove the Supercar in France last year at a test, but Croft was my first experience of driving the car in wet conditions. I started steady and built up the pace throughout the day. I struggled slightly to find grip on my starts, which meant I was in the midfield in the races and with it being very wet, that was difficult. I missed getting into the A final due to a spin, but all in all I came away from the event happy.”
The Citroen is currently being rebuilt by LD Motorsports. “We have a few options to test before the first round (at Croft) but it depends on when the car is finished. I think every driver on the grid hopes to win, but I’m in no doubt about how hard the competition will be this year. I'm confident in the car and that I'm learning quickly so I hope for some good battles with the front runners as the year goes on and hopefully we can get some podium finishes. I think to progress you always have to think about the next level, but with my first season not having started yet, my thoughts at the moment are very much about what I need to do this year.”
The first round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship takes place at Croft Circuit on March 19. Buy tickets for the event here.
