Junior RX Champion Jones set for Supernational move
MSA Junior Rallycross Champion Sam Jones will move to the MSA Supernational Rallycross Championship full-time in 2018, in a front-wheel drive Suzuki Swift, and may race the new car in the latter part of next year.
Jones won the Junior RX title in a final-round decider with rival Tom Constantine last month at Croft Circuit, and is keen to stay in British RX. “I’m very pleased to have won the Championship this season. We had quite a lot of bad luck, but it came good in the end. The plan is to stay in rallycross, I really like the sport and we would be racing next year if it wasn’t for my GCSE’s,” said Jones. “We’re going to move up to Supernational with a brand-new car that we’re building, which should be really good.”
The new Swift will be constructed using an ex-rally car body shell, which has already been converted to accommodate a two-litre Vauxhall engine. Jones’ father Mike will continue to run the programme, and may even drive the car next year to work on its development ahead of a title-challenge in 2018.
Former Junior RX champion Paige Bellerby was a championship contender in the Supernational category this season driving a Lotus Exige and is set to return next season.
