The 2014 MSA Junior Swift Rallycross Championship revs back into action at Lydden Hill on August Bank Holiday Monday.

It was Ripon’s Charlie Bean who found his form again at Pembrey four weeks ago, taking victory in the Final ahead of nearest rival Drew Bellerby. In doing so, Bean reinstated himself at the top of the championship standings.

“Winning the title has been at the forefront of my mind since round one back in March,” said Bean. “I thought I had blown my chances after I rolled the car at Knockhill, but I didn’t give up As this is my final year in the Junior Swift Rallycross Championship, I am going all out to win.”

With fierce competition facing Bean in the run up to round four of the championship, his closest rivals are determined not to let him have it all his own way. Bellerby lies a close second and just two points adrift of Bean in the title race, and she knows a mistake from any of the four drivers can throw the championship wide open.

“I am slightly nervous going into the weekend, but after our performance in the first round at Lydden back in March, we know we should have a good weekend." commented Bellerby. "It has been such an intense season of racing already and all the drivers want to win the title as much as each other.”

However, with just nine points separating the top three, and just fifteen points covering all four drivers, it is highly unlikely anything will be decided this weekend.

Retford’s Jake Taylor is waiting in the wings and edging closer to his first Rallycross victory. The 16 year old came close at Knockhill in May, but an unfortunate incident last time out at Pembrey nearly brought his title hopes to a premature end. With the mechanics working hard to repair the damage, Taylor managed to bring the car home in third to keep his hopes alive. This weekend at Lydden Hill sees Taylor with a rebuilt car and a new sponsor to boost the youngster’s confidence.

“Pembrey proved quite a character building weekend for me with everything that went on and I was just ecstatic to finish third. Lydden is my favourite circuit and tests both skill and nerve. I have also teamed up with design and marketing agency Createinn Ltd. who are local to me and they have been so supportive of my career so far.”

The fast improving Jennie Hawkes suffered a setback at Pembrey after a heavy impact with the pit wall caused extensive damage and ended her final. Thankfully, Hawkes was uninjured but the car would need a lot of work to get it ready for Lydden. However, with her dad Martin competing in the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship at the weekend and a fully rebuilt car, Hawkes is upbeat.

“I am really looking forward to Lydden as I have driven there twice before. I was shaken up after my crash at Pembrey and a bit stiff too, but now I am better and the car is fixed, I am hopeful of being up there chasing the lead pack. My dad is a star for fixing the car for me!”
