Leigh-Anne Sedgwick joins BMW Mini ranks in 5 Nations BRX
The Tonbridge racer recently secured the necessary budget to dovetail her outings in the clubmans series with the National championship, which races under elite status in Kent over the weekend of 5/6 December. Although she was forced to miss the opening round in August, Leigh-Anne plans to see out 2020 in 5 Nations BRX and is targeting a place on the top step at Lydden’s double-header event.
“After securing a new sponsorship deal allowing for a bigger budget, we were able to compete in both championships. Sadly, we missed the first round of 5 Nations BRX but we aim to compete in the final rounds and are aiming for some good results.”
Leigh-Anne has been racing for more than 15 years in classes such as autograss and stockcars before making the move to rallycross in 2015. Initially competing in Stockhatch in the Irish Rallycross Championship, she took the vice-champion crown the following year before moving into the British Rallycross Championship in 2017. There at the wheel of a Citroën Saxo she took Hot Hatch class honours.
In 2018 she progressed into BMW Minis in both the British Rallycross Championship and BTRDA, winning the clubmans title for the past three years.
Leigh-Anne also has a super national spec BMW Mini which blew its engine at the end of 2019, but is currently a building a brand new, faster engine with which to compete in 2021. The BTRDA Super Modified Over 2101cc Champion now joins an impressive entry of BMW Minis for rounds 2 & 3 at Lydden Hill, where competitors will get the chance to compete under floodlights on Saturday evening.
Reigning BMW Mini champion Drew Bellerby will not be competing, but her father Dave Bellerby will uphold family honours in her trusty steed, alongside many of the current championship contenders including first round race winner David Bell, Martin Hawkes, Andy Hawkes, Darren Bleasdale, Rob Methold and David Ellis among others.
