Llewellin enters Junior RX full time for 2017 season
Welsh motorsport talent Tom Llewellin, son of double British Rally Champion Dai Llewellin, is set to challenge for the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship title this year by racing in a full season in the Toyo Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship series.
Llewellin made his Junior RX debut at his home circuit, Pembrey, last season and claimed victory. He also won in three subsequent selected events and is so-far unbeaten in his rallycross career. Run by Peter Gwynne Motorsport, Llewellin will race a Suzuki Swift in each of the British RX Championship’s nine rounds this year.
“I really enjoyed rallycross last year. Coming from rallying where you are competing against the clock, the side-by-side competition in rallycross gives me a real thrill,” he said. “I really enjoyed Pembrey as it was my first attempt at rallycross, but Lydden Hill was definitely my favourite circuit. I’m going to continue in Junior rallying this year too, in a Peugeot 107. Unfortunately, some events clash, like the first round, but I have decided to give rallycross priority.”
The MSA Junior Rallycross Championship has attracted a strong entry for 2017, and Llewellin will be pushing hard in a bid to maintain his unbeaten-run. “I will try my best for more of the same,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to going to Ireland and racing at Mondello Park, as I have never been there before. Having a full grid and some international drivers just adds to the excitement of racing.”
The opening round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship takes place at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire next week (March 19). Click here to buy tickets.
