Lomax lays down the gauntlet for other British Super1600 hopefuls
The first round of the British Rallycross Championship saw Craig Lomax and his XtremeRX team make the journey to Croft Circuit to start their 2015 campaign.
Unfortunately for them there were no other Super1600 cars entered due to other cars not being ready. This meant they had to run in the Supermodified class against a field of much more powerful cars.
Having spent two straight days on the rolling road in the lead up to the event the car was pretty much untested. However it wasn’t something that unduly worried Craig and the team as the car didn’t miss a beat from practice to finals. As Craig grew accustomed to the new car he was in fact closing on the more powerful competition and gaining the experience needed to learn the new car.
With his performance at the weekend Craig has certainly sent a strong message to the other super1600 hopefuls in the British Championship and quite possibly raised the bar for this season.
Craig Lomax, #24:
“When we found out we were the only car entered and we would have to run with the Supermodified class, it seemed a good opportunity to use it as a shake down for the car, we still have improvements that we want to do”
“After all the hard work and sleepless nights, especially in the last week. I have one word, Mint!” joked Craig after the event.
A 34 year old family man, who races hard but fair. He works closely with his team to develop the car to help him win. Over the last three years Craig has developed his driving skills to be challenging for national titles.
In the 2013 season they came extremely close last year to becoming national champion. Unfortunately a gear linkage failure in the final round in the final race saw the team miss out on the top honours having to settle for second place.
For the 2014 season the team worked hard to further develop the car. The hard work was rewarded when Craig won the 2014 championship with a round to spare.
