Lomax takes command at Lydden Hill
With continued and ongoing development work on his Citroën C2 Super1600, Craig Lomax headed to Lydden Hill for the penultimate round of the 2015 MSA Briitsh Rallycross in association with the Shannon Group confident of a good result.
The day started with Lydden Hill, the home of Rallycross, shrouded in a blanket of thick fog making visibility extremely limited and very difficult for everyone in practice.
The weather, sadly was not to improve, and the morning mists gave way to heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightning.
A new and largely untested engine installed by Impulse Engine Developments gave Lomax the power in the opening heat of the day to make his way from the back of the grid to challenge for the lead on the first corner, but he was caught out by the conditions and it sent him spinning off the circuit. He managed to recover and finish in third spot.
Lomax made no such mistake in the second and third heats driving to successive heat victories in impressive style.
Lomax started the final from pole position and made it onto the loose section at Chessons in first place and with a clear track ahead of him. He opted to take his joker lap on the third lap and re-joined just behind the new leader, but it was only a matter of time before he retook the lead, which he managed on the final lap when the leader had no choice but to take his Joker. It left Lomax with a clear run to the finish and another win.
At the finish Lomax said “We wanted to go out and make a point. A lot of people have said we have won the championship this year without being tested. I think that today we have proven we have a championship winning Car.”
The championship now moves north to Croft Circuit for the season finale, which will also include the Grand Prix on 10th and 11th October.
