Lynch raring to go ahead of British Championship return
Wigan racer Tony Lynch has his sights firmly set on a front-running performance when the new MSA British Rallycross Championship in Association with the Shannon Group gets underway this weekend at Croft.
Westhoughton-based Tony will be returning to the British Championship after a year away competing in the BTRDA series; ending the season with silverware to his name after an impressive campaign at the wheel of his Lucas Oil Team Geriatric Mini.
Having kick-started a long term development programme on the car last year, Tony and his team will begin 'stage two' of the process in 2015 having elected to enter the car into the highly competitive Supernational category. A series of revisions are planned to the car over the course of the season, the first of which will appear on the Mini this weekend in Yorkshire thanks to a new suspension system from Avo.
A close ratio gearbox will debut on the car later in the season.
"I'm really excited that the new season has finally arrived and I can't wait to get started," Tony said. "Having just been away on holiday, my batteries are recharged and I'm up for the challenge that lies ahead'. He added "Despite the huge strides we took last year, I'm under no illusions about how tough the Supernational class will be but I think Croft is a good place for us to start. We performed strongly there in the BTRDA series last year so it should give us a good indication of where we stand in the pecking order."
"I don't expect us to be fighting for victory but if others have any 'new car' problems, I'd hope we'll be in a position to make the most of it. The first target is to try and qualify for the A Final and anything beyond that will be a bonus. Hopefully with the work planned, our target will soon become podiums but we want to keep our feet on the ground at this stage and focus on the job at hand."
