Lynch seeking upturn in fortunes at Lydden Hill
Wigan racer Tony Lynch will hope to put recent misfortune firmly behind him this weekend when the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group heads to Lydden Hill for the seventh event of the season.
Westhoughton-based Tony makes the long trip to Kent looking to overcome the mechanical issues that have blighted his Super National Class challenge in the last two rounds – with gearbox problems hampering his challenge at both Mondello Park and Pembrey.
In the time since Pembrey, Tony’s Lucas Oil Team Geriatric squad has worked hard to prepare his MINI Cooper S for the Bank Holiday Monday event; including replacing the troublesome gearbox that prevented him from competing in the final last time out.
Eager to put his bad luck firmly in the past, Tony will now hope to return to the kind of form that saw him secure a stunning victory in the fourth round of the year.
A strong showing will also allow Tony to consolidate his top four position in the championship standings, with realistic hopes of ending the year with a top three finish.
“Luck hasn’t been on our side since we won the fourth round of the year, but hopefully things will change this weekend when we head back to Lydden Hill,” he said. “We’ve been working with our gearbox supplier to fix the problems we’ve had in recent events and are confident that we’ll have no repeat of the issues that have held us back.
“While we know we still have a long way to go with developing the MINI, we have already shown that we are heading in the right direction. If I’m being honest, I didn’t think we’d have a win to our name already and it would be fantastic if we could get another one this weekend to make up for some of the disappointment we’ve faced at the last two rounds.
“We’re under no illusions how tough it will be this weekend, but we’ll be pushing to the maximum to see what we can achieve.”
