McCluskey commits to 2025 5 Nations BRX title-challenge
Three-time Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy event-winner John McCluskey has committed to fighting for the title in 2025, having revealed a striking new livery on his Onesonic-backed Ford Fiesta Supercar.
Irishman McCluskey made an emphatic return to rallycross in 2023 after a departure of almost 15 years, and contested a full 5 Nations BRX campaign last year with the same Murray Motorsport team for which he drove a Peugeot 306 and Citroen Xsara in his former career in the British and Irish Championships.
Also a former European Rallycross Championship competitor, McCluskey finished as runner-up in the 2024 5 Nations BRX standings behind title-winner Patrick O’Donovan, and returns with eyes on fighting for the title as part of a multi-car effort from Murray Motorsport.
McCluskey’s OlsbergsMSE-built Fiesta has been overhauled over the winter months, since the multiple Irish Championship event-winner concluded his 2024 campaign with a sixth 5 Nations BRX podium of the tour, at the Lydden Hill finale in November.
He will test the car at the forthcoming rounds of the Irish Rallycross Championship next week (March 8/9) at Mondello Park, before taking on the 11-round 5 Nations BRX season that begins at Lydden Hill on Easter Bank Holiday weekend (April 19 and 21).
As part of Murray Motorsport, McCluskey will also compete in the revised 5 Nations BRX Teams’ Championship this season, details of which will be announced in due course.
John McCluskey:
“I’m really excited to commit to a full 5 Nations BRX season. We learned a lot last year and it will be great to build on that in 2025. Murray Motorsport and Mountune (engine supplier) have done a lot of work on the car over the winter, focusing on durability and improved performance. Having multiple drivers within Murray Motorsport will certainly help our progress too, and it will be exciting to race for the Teams’ Championship. The target will be to win as many events as possible, and of course the dream is to win the championship.
Lydden has always been my favourite track so I’m really looking to both events there, but I’m also very excited to compete in France at Loheac – that will be amazing. I have a new sponsor on board for 2025 in Irish Audio equipment brand Onesonic. The car looks fantastic and I hope to give Onesonic a good return on their investment."
