Middleton gets new Swift for 2017 Junior RX Challenge
Thomas Middleton will return to the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship this season for an assault on the Junior RX title, racing a newly built Swift in the nine-round series.
Middleton won the last event of 2016, claiming victory in the MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix support-category, having finished third overall in the British RX Junior series to Champion Sam Jones and title-protagonist Thomas Constantine. Middleton will debut his new car at the opening round of MSA British Rallycross Championship at Croft Circuit next month (March 19).
“Our first year in rallycross was a great learning experience. We had way more than our fair share of bad luck, some due to inexperience but we’re confident we've learned enough to erase that this year. We built a new car because we had a few issues last year, some from contact, and we had a donor car so we decided to start a fresh and learn every part of the car first-hand,’ said Middleton, who has worked with his father on the build of the car while Arrows bodywork has assisted on the bodywork and Field Motorsport has helped with setup.
“We’re hoping for a podium finish at every round and are definitely looking to win the championship,” he said. “We are definitely looking forward to bigger grids and tougher competition as it pushes everyone along. No wins will be handed to anyone on a plate.”
With 2016 Junior RX champion Sam Jones graduating to the MSA Supernational Rallycross Championship for 2017, a new champion is guaranteed to be crowned in the Junior category this season.
