Mullen masters Knockhill
Despite leaving a wet and windy Leeds to make the journey North to Knockhill, the Mullen Motorsport team were in good spirits as they made the journey, still on a high after a great team result at the previous round in Holland, at the Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard.
The Power Maxed Suzuki Swift team arrived at Knockhill ready to continue and challenge for a good result at Round Three of the 2014 MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group in the Suzuki Swift Sport Championship.
Come Sunday, the FDP Group backed Suzuki Swift was ready, and Mullen stated his and the teams intentions straight away with a win in Heat One. Mullen said “That’s a good start for myself and the team, but the track is slippy this morning and you just need to be careful and smooth which we were, so it’s a good start.”
Heat Two saw the FDP Group driver take the win from Tristan Ovenden, with Rodemark taking third, meaning that with two wins so far, Mullen was ideally placed for the final, despite wiper issues in that heat.
Heat Three saw Chris at the back of the gird, and knew that he has his work cut out to maintain his good form at Knockhill so far. A steady approach netted him third and confirmed his Pole position for the Final, a result that delighted both him and the team. He said “Its been a great day, and we are delighted with pole for the final, but as you know, its not over yet but we will do out best.”
The front row of the final featured the main protagonists in this years battle, and alongside Chris were, Graham Rodemark and Tristan Ovenden. Such is the pace and competition in the Swiftsport class this year, Mullen knew a good start was vital for the Car Spares for You Suzuki Swift. The issue with the wipers was still a concern, but the start saw Mullen follow Rodemark from the off, and challenge for the win. Taking an early joker lap, was a decisive move by Mullen and it gave him the advantage he needed, and despite exiting Real Radio corner on two wheels, he maintained his lead and took a very well fought win, and with it his and the Mullen Motorsport team’s second victory of the season.
At the finish a clearly delighted Mullen said 'Two out of three isn’t bad, Lydden was an interesting first round with having no testing over winter but we gave it a really good go, but now I feel I'm back on the ball and really looking forward to Pembrey and the next round.”
