Norwegian racer Steinsholt joins Junior RX field
Rising Norwegian star Ole Henry Steinsholt is set to make his rallycross debut at Croft Circuit next month and will race in the full MSA Junior Rallycross Championship this season.
Steinsholt has claimed cross kart championships in Scandinavia, previously winning the 125cc Norwegian and NEZ (North European Zone) series, but he will begin his rallycross career in Junior RX this season. The 14-year old driver tested a Junior Swift Sport with Peter Gwynne Motorsport in Norway earlier this year, on a frozen lake and will continue to drive the car that Tom Llewellin used to win three events last season as he gears up for his rallycross debut. A new car is being built for Steinsholt to race this season in the British RX series which takes place at events in England, Wales and Ireland.
"Competing in the Junior Rallycross Championship is an excellent way of gaining important international experience. Driving a right-hand drive car is a new experience for me in what will be a competitive environment. All this will help me develop as a driver and will hopefully give me an edge once I’m 16 and can start driving in the Norwegian championship,” said Norwegian Elite Training Programme member, Steinsholt. “Without the opportunity to race in the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship I would have to wait another year before driving in rallycross in Norway."
The young driver will emulate Sweden’s Kevin Hansen by racing in Junior RX. Hansen claimed the title in 2013 and won the FIA European Rallycross Championship last year. "We are pleased that Ole Henry and his mentors looked at our championship and have seen the way it is run, with the level playing field it provides and consider it the best place for a young driver to develop,” said Swift Championship Promotor Peter Gwynne. "We’re excited to have Ole Henry joining us and know the other junior drivers will welcome the challenge and enjoy having him race with them."
