O’Donovan set for British and World Stage
Former British Rallycross Champion Ollie O’ Donovan is set to return to the British Rallycross at Knockhill next weekend following a deal to purchase the ex Kevin Procter Ford Focus.
Speaking to British Rallycross this week the former 2007 British Rallycross Champion said “Its been something that we had been talking about since the awards dinner earlier this year, and we finally sorted out a deal last week that means I can drive the car at Knockhill.”
Asked if he felt that he could push for this years title in the 2014 MSA British Rallycross in association with the Shannon Group O’Donovan said “Well we are two rounds in, and Julian already has a healthy lead, but we will go there aiming to do well, but as you know anything can happen.”
Ironically O’Donovan’s last outing was at Knockhill, where he drove a Ford Fiesta Supercar in 2012, having also taken in the European Rallycross round at Lydden as well as a few of the British rounds. Recently though he has concentrated on his RX Racing business, that is now a successful part of the British Championship and the time is right to compete once again, and he told British Rallycross I’m excited about it all, and it will good to be back in a Supercar, and join up with Julian and Steve Hill and all the others. I will aim to try and get close to them and take it from there.”
O’Donovan also plans to take in the second round of the FIA World Rallycross at Lydden Hill later this month, but is under no illusion that this will not be an easy task and said “I have not competed for a couple of years, but the chance to compete against the likes of Petter Solberg, Liam Doran and Andy Scott will be good, and of course it will be good to renew the challenge with Andrew Jordan too, as over the years we had some great races, so yeah I am looking forward to Lydden Hill.”
The Ford Focus will once again be run by Tony Bardy Motorsport, who has prepared O’Donovan’s cars since the halcyon days of the Peugeot 306 that he won the title with, and is now owned ironically by Andy Scott, who’s son Marc drove it last year at the Croft event, and competes in the RX Racing championship that O’Donovan runs.
