Rallycross Supercars and super stars set for Autosport Show
Rallycross is set to star at the Autosport International Show this weekend, as drivers from the past and present perform in the Live Action Arena.
Six-time British Rallycross Champion Dermot Carnegie will be reunited with the Ford Fiesta he raced at the close of his Supercar career, the car now owned by British RX racer Dave Bellerby. Carnegie’s former engineer, Julian Godfrey, himself a five-time MSA British Rallycross Champion will drive his title-winning Ford Fiesta, joined by fellow Supercar competitors Ollie O’Donovan, Kevin Procter and Andy Scott. The Albatec Racing owner will drive the multiple title-winning Peugeot 306 built for the 1994 European Rallycross Championship by Will Gollop.
Current MSA British Rallycross Champion Dan Rooke will be present in the arena to talk about his title-winning season, joined by the most successful rallycross driver ever, Kenneth Hansen. A number of FIA World Rallycross Championship personalities will attend, including Andreas Bakkerud, Janis Baumanis and Reinis Nitiss, all three drivers having made guest appearances in the RX150 Rallycross Championship in the last two years. British driver Guy Wilks will take the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Supercar.
The 50th anniversary of rallycross will be celebrated at the event in Birmingham, with the first winner of a rallycross event, Vic Elford, reunited with the Porsche 911 that he drove to victory. Tony Bardy will drive the Vauxhall Astra he raced in British RX in the 1990s, while Pat and Liam Doran will drive a pair of Ford RS200s. Retro Rallycross competitor will Rob Gibson drive his MG Metro 6R4, joined by Mini racer Lance Foster and 2016 Retro Champion Ray Morgan. Adam Keeler will run the MG Metro 6R4 that Will Gollop ran for Tiff Needell in the 1989 MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix.
