Retro Rallycross set to entertain at British World RX event
The Retro Rallycross Championship category that runs as part of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery is running a series of Group B demonstrations at the British round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill this weekend.
Two former Will Gollop MG Metro 6R4s will be in action. The car that Tiff Needel drove in the 1989 MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix, now owned and driven by Adam Keeler, while the legendary Bi-Turbo 6R4, with which Gollop won the 1992 FIA European Rallycross Championship will make its first appearance on a rallycross circuit in many years, in the hands of new owner Enda Garvey.
Retro Rallycross Championship regular Rob Gibson will drive the RGV 6R4 that he still competes in today. Ian Rowlance will perform in his ex-Bengt Wiklund 6R4 and former European Championship Group B competitor Mark Flaherty will drive an ex-Lawrence Gibson 6R4, before competing in further Retro Rallycross events later in the year.
Multiple British Rallycross Champion Pat Doran will drive the Ford RS200 in which he won the French round of the European Championship in 1992, which has recently been rebuilt following a fire at the British World RX event two years ago. David Halford will also perform in an Audi Quattro.
On static display in the Retro Rallycross area will be Barry Stewart’s ex-Rolf Nilsson Porsche 911, the Renault Alpine formally raced by Piet Kruythoff, an ex-Colin McRae 6R4 and Bill Watson’s Ford RS200.
