Rooke top on day one at Maasmechelen
Dan Rooke set the fastest time in Q1 to lead the overnight order at the fifth round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Batteries at Maasmechelen in Belgium (July 16).
Championship leader Rooke won the very last race of the day on Saturday evening, ahead of Pat Doran who had been the fastest British RX driver in practice. Doran ends up third overnight, second going to Kevin Procter, who ran on his own at the front in the first of four Supercar races. Ollie O’Donovan, Dave Bellerby and Julian Godfrey round out the top six, while Dave Newsham is seventh, having his best race to date since switching to rallycross from the British Touring Car Championship.
Albatec Racing driver James Grint lost time when he had a coming together with Dutchman Wil Teurlings, while Mad Mark Watson was spun by Belgian driver Jos Jansen. Tony Lynch set the fastest time in the MSA Supernational Rallycross Championship while Gary Dixon rolled his Vauxhall Astra in the first corner, Aiden Hills is top of the Swift Sport order after day one and Chrissy Palmer won the RX150 Q1 battle. Paul Coney was the fastest British driver in the Super1600 category while Rob Gibson won the Retro Rallycross Q1 race, Kris Hudson was top in BMW Mini and Tomasz Wielgosz was best of the bunch in the Hot Hatch category.
