Scott takes victory at Croft Circuit
Albatec Racing kicked off the year with a resounding victory in the opening round of the 2015 MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with The Shannon Group at Croft, North Yorkshire on Sunday. The Dumfries-based team, fielding a single Peugeot 208 Supercar for Team Principal Andy Scott, secured victory in two of the three heats with second in the third to set up a pole position spot for the A final.
In the six-lap final Andy displayed all of the flair that netted him the 2011 runner up crown as he surged to a lights to flag win ahead of arguably the strongest British Rallycross field in years. At the venue of a stirring outright Supercar victory in the final round of 2013, the wily Scot showed the form that also saw him secure numerous heat wins in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, and double British Rallycross victory in 2014.
Following Scott home in second was Ollie O'Donovan in the Ford Focus, with Kevin Procter in a Ford Fiesta third.
For son Marc, this year’s opening round didn’t go entirely to plan for tjhe 29 year old, after a gearbox issue hampered his plans in the defence of his title. The reigning champion’s bid for a hat-trick of titles following two dominant seasons in RX150s netted a third and second place but saw the Lochmaben racer fail to finish the Final.
Andy Scott, Team Principal and driver Albatec Racing :
“What a great way to start the season. The car was great all day, all the team worked really hard to rebuild a car capable of victory and everything went according to plan.
“It’s a shame that Marc wasn’t able to start the defence of his title with a victory, but I’m sure he’ll be in a race-winning position next time out. At Lydden we’ll also have Mark (Flaherty) out for his first event of the year, and I’m looking forward to building on these great results as we bid for the title.”
Marc Scott, driver Albatec Racing :
“The weekend didn’t go quite as we planned with a gearbox issue that started in heat one, which hampered our chances overall, but I fully expect to have the new buggy ready for the next race at Lydden Hill.
“It’s a long season, with some great tracks to come, so I’ll be pushing hard to get my championship bid underway next time out.”
