MSA Super National champion Rooke moves to Supercar for 2016
Current MSA Super National Rallycross Champion Dan Rooke will graduate to the headline Supercar category in the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with Odyssey Battery this season, driving an LD Motorsports Citroen DS3 Supercar.
Rooke won the Super National championship title last year - his inaugural season in the sport - driving a Citroen AX. For 2016, he will race the Citroen Supercar used by Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud to win two rounds of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in 2013, in Sweden and France.
“I’m really excited to be able to make the move into the Supercar class. The cars are a lot different from what I am use to, so I’m looking forward to learning how to drive the car and to race in the class. Last season I was racing in my own family run team, with my dad and the guys who work in my dad’s garage,” said 18-year old Rooke, who won two Super National events in 2015, both at Lydden Hill. “LD Motorsports will be providing me with the car and on-event support through-out the year. They will also be giving me driver training, which I’m really looking forward to. It’s going to be a steep learning curve, given that I have never driven with four-wheel drive before, and the power that the car produces is a lot more than I am used to. I’m hoping to be able to make it to the podium by the end of the year.”
The LD Motorsports team is run by double X Games gold medalist and World Rallycross Championship competitor, Liam Doran. “We are extremely excited to be in a position to give Dan a chance to race in Supercar. If you look at his relative experience compared to what he has achieved, he’s a remarkable talent. We have previously supported young drivers by bringing them into Supercar – such as Andreas Bakkerud - which is a great way to help rallycross grow as a sport,” said Doran. “We are starting a test programme with Dan next week, in time for the first round.”
The first round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship takes place at Croft circuit on March 6.
