UK rallycross focuses on stronger future with streamlined 5 Nations BRX and BTRDA Clubmans structure
- 5 Nations BRX Supercar gets more diverse calendar
- Streamlined class structure implemented to strengthen UK rallycross scene
- Increased joint 5 Nations BRX and BTRDA Clubmans events to boost grids
The Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy and BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championships are today revealing a firm plan to deliver a stronger future for rallycross in the UK.
Following months of discussions between 5 Nations BRX organisers and the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship, a 2025 calendar has been formed to deliver a strong package for both series, following feedback from promotors, circuits and competitors across the board.
For 2025, 5 Nations BRX is directing its efforts into delivering a simplified, promotable, class structure, led by the headline Supercar category that will feature a more vibrant calendar in 2025, including a new venue (TBC) as part of a strategy to build on the strong social media growth made in recent seasons, with additional changes made to the fan experience on-site, and the broadcast package for those not able to attend events.
Building on the success of the 2WD Superprix held at Lydden Hill this year, where 5 Nations BRX (2WD) and the BTRDA series ran on the same day, that concept will return in 2025, and be increased to include a double-header for all categories at Pembrey Circuit.
In addition to Supercar, 5 Nations BRX will operate the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship, Swift Sport Rallycross Championship, Cross Car and RX150 Rallycross Championships, and Retro Rallycross Championships.
The BTRDA series will continue to run all of its existing categories, while adopting competitors from the BMW Mini Rallycross Championship and Supernational Rallycross Championship (called Super Modified in BTRDA) in an effort to boost grids in both classes, while both categories will additionally be welcomed at the first of two Mondello Park events for 5 Nations BRX in 2025, as invitational classes, along with other BTRDA categories.
The full UK rallycross calendar and class structure will be revealed tomorrow, Thursday 12 December.
Pat Doran, 5 Nations BRX:
“This is a very important moment for rallycross in the UK, perhaps much more so than many people will realise right now. Rallycross is a sport for the people, at a wide range of different levels, and this effort is about accommodating everybody with what they want to do, while building a strong future for rallycross in the UK, where this great sport began. 5 Nations BRX events have become increasingly complex in recent years with the number of classes and the mixed narrative. Now is the time to simplify and form a strong platform for the future. Supercar will get a more varied calendar in 2025, while the other classes will run at a range of events that has taken a lot of consideration. We are looking beyond the total number of entries at individual events, this is about creating a championship that people can both aspire to be part of, and follow from the outside in a better, more concise way too. Thanks to everyone involved for working together to make this happen.”
Jordine Crooks: BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship
“We are delighted to be continuing our working relationship with 5 Nations BRX in 2025. As a championship, we are keen to maintain our identity and the huge array of awards we are able to offer, whilst also focusing on the need to support the development of rallycross, the sport we all love, as a whole. Building on the success of our combined event at Lydden Hill last August, increased collaboration between our championships for 2025 will mean competitors visit an increased variety of circuits with an increased number of combined events and a more streamlined category structure. We are excited to be the home of BMW Mini and Super Modified, whilst also housing All4 Mini in our reformed-for-2025 Modified 4x4 category, in collaboration with the 5 Nations organisers. This collaboration will compliment both championships, and provide competitors with full grids, close racing for drivers and fans alike to enjoy."
