World RX ace Hansen reunited with title winning Junior RX Swift, now raced by Tom Constantine
Former MSA Junior Rallycross Champion Kevin Hansen, who now races for Team Peugeot-Hansen in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, was reintroduced to his title-winning Junior Swift car at the British round of World RX at Lydden Hill last week.
Now raced by current driver Tom Constantine, who has won events in the car and is a title-challenger, the ex-Hansen Swift was on display at Lydden Hill to attract interest in the Junior RX series. “It was great to reunite Kevin with the Swift. We have changed the appearance of it a little since he owned it, but he seemed to like it which was great to hear from such a high-profile driver,” said Constantine. “It's great to see Kevin fighting with the top boys in the World Championship, knowing that he started his career and won his first championship in my car.”
The Richmond-based driver says it gives him motivation to push to reach the highest echelons in the sport, having watched Hansen climb from Junior RX to winning the FIA European Rallycross Championship last year and now racing in World RX. “Kevin is obviously a natural talent having won in Juniors with close competition. With me being at the sharp end in what is arguably an even more competitive era definitely motivates me for the future,” he said. “It was phenomenal at Lydden, there's no buzz quite like a World RX event so it's nearly impossible not to enjoy it. I spent a lot of time with my sponsors, Team RX Racing, over the weekend.”
Constantine recently competed in a BTRDA Clubmans Championship event at Pembrey to learn the new-for-2017 layout of the Welsh Circuit, and is confident ahead of the forthcoming British RX event there later this month. “I'm really looking forward to racing on the new circuit again. I think I have the pace to win there after having to settle for lower podium positions this year in the British Championship so far. The circuit has changed massively since last year and having some track time on the new layout is definitely a great advantage.”
