Wroot to make rallycross debut at Lydden Hill
The MSA Junior Rallycross Championship, which runs as part of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery, will receive a boost at Lydden Hill in two weeks time as 14-year old Morgan Wroot joins the series for the remainder of the season.
The rallycross newcomer first sampled motorsport when he tried karting aged eight, while on holiday. He began racing in Easykart at 11-years old and finished as highest placed Rookie in fourth overall. Other karting highlights have included finishing second in only his second event as an Easykart Junior driver in 2015 and racing at the Easykart World Finals in Italy last year, an event at which he hopes to race at again this year. “I’m very excited, I can’t wait to start rallycross. I’ve been waiting for this moment for about three years,” said Wroot, who recently celebrated his 14th birthday (the minimum age required to race in the category).
This season, Wroot set the fastest lap at the opening two Easykart rounds of the year and has also raced in the Super One championship, achieving a highest placed rookie trophy and setting a Junior lap record at Ellough Park in Norfolk. However, Wroot’s desire has always been to compete in rallycross. His grandfather, Tony Richardson, has been involved for many years behind the scenes at British Rallycross Championship events and got Wroot hooked on the sport. “We started to go and watch rallycross with my Grandad and I decided that was all I wanted to do when I was old enough,” says Wroot, who will race the Swift Sport previously used by Charlie Bean to win the Junior RX title in 2014. “I had my first coaching in a Swift in 2014, with Peter Gwynne, just before my 12th birthday. Early last year we bought the car we have now so I could practice, but it’s not so easy to find a lot of places to do that. I’m really looking forward to finally racing it in British Rallycross at Lydden.”
The MSA Junior Rallycross Championship is currently let by Sam Jones. See full championship table here.
